That was a nice little ditty there about Elisha, but the writer missed the sign that was given altogether (of course OMHO.) Here is YOUR sign. When you look at the enemies, what do YOU see? I just happened to write about this same chain of scripture recently because I had not seen it before until recently. See if you can crack this WORD puzzle with your spiritual AYE Z, HIGHlighted and UNDERscored, for your contrivance, er, ah, I mean convenience, of course!
From 2 Kings 6:
15 And when the servant of the man of God was risen early, and gone forth, behold, an host compassed the city both with horses and chariots. And his servant said unto him, Alas, my master! how shall we do?
16 And he answered, Fear not: for THEY that be with us are more than they that be with them.
17 And Elisha prayed, and said, LORD, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.
18 And when THEY came down to him, Elisha prayed unto the LORD, and said, Smite this people, I pray thee, with blindness.
Any takers for this HUGEMONGEOUS SCRIPTURAL GEMSTONE???!!!
The "THEY" are the previously underscored THEY, the horses and chariots of FIRE. That is how The Propeht saw THOSE PEOPLE, those APPARENT ENEMIES. There are TWO they's involved here.
NOW, do you know the THEY, the "this people" who were stricken with BLINDNESS because there was also a THEY with THEM. That is the "real" underLYING question that is both posed and revealed here, and it was THEY who were utterly defeated. I am sure Elisha had a good laugh over this one. I sure did when I saw it.
What's even funnier is that subsequent translations, not seeing, perceiving or understanding the importance of these sentence structures and connections, have radically and substantially altered the account, and BLINDLY termed the "they" as "the enemies" when in fact they are the THEY who were FOR Elijah, and ALSO why The Prophet instructed those ENEMIES to be FED in the midst of the army of Israel.
It is most important to remember that ALL PEOPLE are Gods offspring. (Acts 17:23-31) The Prophet saw that clearly as did his left hand man/sidekick/dupe (at least for a brief moment.)
enjoy!
