"For what is Mysticism? It is not the attempt to draw near to God, not by rites or ceremonies, but by inward disposition. It is not merely a hard word for "The Kingdom of Heaven is within"? Heaven is neither a place nor a time."
Florence Nightingale
The Kingdom of Heaven so incomprehensibly vast in the sky, is just as vast within.
Scanning the skyways, we behold a supreme galaxy spanning the heavens from northeast to southwest. We call it the Milky Way. Our sun and planets belong to this vast cosmic belt. We are part of this majesty. It is peopled with unnumbered suns stretching away to Infinitude. Beyond the Milky Way lies a broad zone of "stardust" containing no solid celestial bodies. Above that lies a belt of cosmic matter where vast masses of solar atoms are sufficiently cool to separate, to obey the law of cohesion, and to organize suns.
Beyond that stretches an unimaginable ocean of chemical sub stance which is cutting new channels in space--all revolving like cohesive seas of force and fire. Extending above this lies a boundless space of fire, light, heat, electricity, magnetism--all the forces known and unknown to humans. Above that lies the Fountainhead from which atoms receive the omnipotent centrifugal Divine Impulse to sweep down from the vast arena of eternity into the region of form. Overshadowing that, and radiating throughout Infinitude, lies the Godhead Itself, where Love and Wisdom are wed.
Interspersed throughout these ascending zones of substance lies the spiritual realm, forming sphere after sphere of celestial radiance, extending beyond our human capacity to perceive.
But the sub line harmonies of the universe break more and more upon our understanding as we extend our researches into the penetralia of causative principles. We find our seven senses are organized progressively, each related to higher degrees of vibration, each corresponding with mathematical exactness to the ascending degrees of matter.
For example in exotic relationship; solid matter and your body can meet through the sense of touch. But solid matter must be expanded to the fluid state before it is appropriate to your sense of taste. It must become vapor before your nose can smell it. It must become ether before it can be heard. and solid matter must become essence before your eyes can see it. Solid matter must become ideas before your sixth sense, intuition, can perceive it. And it must dissolve into spirit if it would be comprehended by your seventh sense---pure wisdom.
The eyes do not behold the ethereal waves of sound--they are attuned only to the sense of hearing. Nor do the ears perceive the magnetic undulations of light. The olfactory nerves cannot contact the fluidic condition of matter, nor can the taste buds apprehend the vapors. Each condition of matter relates to a specific sense perception----
The unfolded powers of Wisdom unite us to our Creator.
The solids, fluids, vapors, ethers and essences create a negative medium for the manifestation of an invisible positive power both overshadowed by Divine Spirit.
You are as mysteriously made as the universe itself--for you reflect every mystery there is. The forces within you relate to all the ascending forces of the universe.
The chemist discovers first the gross element, then the finer elements in it. The meteorologist first finds the gross atmosphere, then the finer ethers in it. The geologist finds first the obvious strata, then the hidden layers of the inner formations. So the physiologist finds organs within organs, and finer storehouses of vital power in the mechanism of the human form. As the astronomer continues to discover the unfolding mysteries of the unseen universe, so will we continue to discover that within ourselves there is a corollary to each discovered plane of life.
